Somali National University Holds Historic Digital Student Elections

In a landmark moment for youth democracy in Somalia, the Somali National University (SNU) has conducted its first-ever digital student elections, allowing students to elect their Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson through a secure online voting system.

📍 Held under the banner of democratic innovation, the election marks a significant stride forward in embracing technology to empower youth participation.

🎓 Since its reopening in 2014 by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, SNU has grown into a national symbol of hope, providing free university education to over 16,000 students across Mogadishu, Badhan, and Abudwak.

🇸🇴 Mohamed Dugoow, Director of Communications at The Villa Somalia, praised the initiative, highlighting how President Hassan Sheikh’s leadership has not only revived SNU but continues to inspire the next generation to take charge of their future through democratic means.

“Democracy is taking root where it matters most — among our youth. And with innovation guiding the way, the future of Somalia looks brighter than ever,” Dugoow noted.
