ABOUT US
SOMALI ELECTS
Promoting universal suffrage for all Somalis.
1 person, 1 vote
At Somali Elects, we believe that democracy is not a privilege—it is a right. Our mission is simple yet profound: to advocate for universal suffrage in Somalia, ensuring that every Somali, regardless of clan, region, or status, has the right to directly elect their leaders.
In a world where one person, one vote is the standard, Somalis must not be left behind. We reject imposed political arrangements that silence the voice of the people and maintain outdated power-sharing formulas. Instead, we stand for:
A unified Somali identity
Our platform is not aligned with any political party. We are a civic movement, inspired by the idea that sovereignty belongs to the people. We seek to educate, mobilize, and empower Somalis everywhere—at home and in the diaspora—to reclaim their voice through the ballot box.
Because the future of Somalia must be chosen by Somalis themselves.
1V1P – One Vote for Every Somali. No Exceptions.
WHY NOW?
What Somali Elects Aims to Achieve
Somali Elects is a people-powered initiative committed to transforming Somalia’s political future through democratic inclusion, civic empowerment, and electoral justice. Our central goal is to advocate for universal suffrage in Somalia — the principle that every Somali citizen deserves the right to vote directly for their leaders.
For decades, Somalia has been governed through indirect electoral systems dominated by elite bargains and clan-based appointments. These processes have excluded ordinary citizens, deepened divisions, and eroded public trust. Somalia remains one of the few countries in the world where the majority of the population has never cast a meaningful vote. Somali Elects was born to challenge this injustice and to demand a system where sovereignty belongs to the people.
